Since his first venture into the art market in 1993, Robert Casterline has played a key role in business development and managing art investments for some of the most important collectors in the world. He is known for his in-depth knowledge of the market and his long-standing expertise in Modern and Contemporary Art. Robert has offered his experience as a broker and consultant to both private and institutional collectors for more than two decades. Throughout his experience as an art dealer, Robert has developed extensive marketing and negotiation skills and has been involved in numerous seven-figure transactions on behalf of his galleries and clients around the world. His ability to predict future market conditions and his significant presence in the contemporary art world well positions his clients to take advantage of unique international opportunities.
Robert’s interest in the arts started with his collection of original Peanuts comic strips. It was the largest privately-held collection of Peanuts in the world. Following Charles Schultz’s death in 2000, Robert sold his entire collection to the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California. The museum’s large presence of original artwork prior to 1974 is a direct result of this collection. The sale gained widespread recognition among world-renowned institutional collectors and organizations and in 2002, Robert was approached by Portland Press to curate and execute a $10 million exhibition of Dale Chihuly’s work at the XIX Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Robert opened his first gallery, the Museum Works Galleries in Aspen, Colorado in 1995. The gallery frequently showed work at prestigious fairs and exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. The Museum Works Galleries – Aspen closed in 2010 when Robert opened the Chicago installment of Museum Works Galleries with partner and furniture designer Jordan Goodman of JG Custom Design. Located in the Merchandise Mart, Museum Works Galleries – Chicago presented works by emerging and established artists alike, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Vik Muniz, Roy Lichtenstein, Alexander Calder, Richard Prince, Sam Francis and Yoshitomo Nara. Museum Works Galleries – Chicago has been featured in numerous high-end publications such as Trendy Magazine and Chicago Art Magazine. The Museum Works Galleries, Chicago subsequently closed in 2011 when Casterline and Goodman opened Casterline|Goodman Gallery in Chicago in 2011 and in Aspen in 2012. Additionally, that commitment to excellence was enriched in May of 2022, when the duo opened a second Aspen gallery space, focusing on art advisory. Both Robert and Jordan travel also extensively, showing at fairs and exhibitions across the United States and Europe.
Throughout his career, Robert continues to be involved in the community. Since 2009, he has served on the board for Autism Key, an organization founded in 2005 to offer resources and support to the autism and special needs communities. He is also involved with the Eagle Scouts, Boy Scouts of America organization and was a member of the Guggenheim Young Collector Council from 2008 – 2010.
A successful entrepreneur and investor, Robert holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Wilkes University, Pennsylvania. He currently resides in Naples, Florida with his wife and two children.
