Anselm Reyle is known for his large, abstract paintings with found objects. He studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. In 1997, he moved to Berlin and founded a studio cooperation with fellow artists. Reyle’s most well-known series is his foil paintings, which are installed in perspex boxes. He also creates “paint-by-numbers,” a drip series using high-gloss paint, and neon light installations.
Though most well-known for using found objects in unconventional ways, Reyle draws inspiration from the masters of Art Informel, Cubism, Minimalism and Pop art. He has said, "Many parts of art history interest me. I try to see if I can really add something to it...taking a stereotype in order to breathe new life into it." Reyle has become a well-known pop culture figure, designing a line of handbags with Dior. With his success, the artist has hired numerous assistants to help him with a list of commissions.
Reyle’s work is featured in the permanent collections of the Daimler Contemporary in Berlin, the Sammlung Boros in Berlin, the CCA Andratx in Spain and the Rubell Family Collection in Miami. He has exhibited his work worldwide, including in Zurich, Brussels, Paris and Copenhagen.
