Mark Acetelli: Points of Light, Aria, Absence and Presence

Mark's most recent series, “Points of Light”, engages in a visual dialogue with Homer's Odyssey, exploring the quest for a safe harbor and the concept of home. He was reading the work at the time he was creating these paintings. That exploration intertwined with the idea of longing to get home. These paintings embrace “the space between notes or the space between a hand clap,” says Mark. Sometimes the silence between the notes brings a depth and a volume to the work. As the work is distilled down to the bare minimum of color line and form, the artist intended to say more with less.

For Mark, home is not merely a physical place but a feeling—a metaphor for finding peace and tranquility amidst the noise and chaos of everyday life. He starts with a blank slate and the tones, the colors, come to him as he paints, in “a Zen-like, meditative flow state. The act of painting is like an internal exploration of thoughts, emotions and memories and the sheer willingness to confront our own vulnerability and mortality.”
